Shovel
Shovels are auxiliary tools used to ease the process of collecting dirt, sand, gravel, clay and snow. Shovels are only necessary to collect snowballs from snow; all other blocks for which shovels are useful can be successfully harvested by hand. You may use wood or stone or diamond gem or gold ingot or iron ingots.
Pickaxe
Pickaxes are one of the most commonly used tools in the game, being required to mine all ores and many other types of block. Different qualities of pickaxe are required to successfully harvest certain ores and blocks. For example, diamonds break all ore very fast. You can use gold ingots, diamond (gem), wooden planks, cobblestone and iron ingots to make different pickaxes.
Swords
Swords are weapons used to kill mobs or players (if multiplayer PvP is on) quicker, but are not required to defeat them. They also can remove several blocks faster than using bare hands (such as leaves, wool, glowstone, and Soul Sand), but instead of one use of the Durability Bar, it counts as two uses. Killing larger slimes with a sword will also prevent more slimes from spawning. In The Nether you can find Zombie Pigmen that use Golden Swords, but they do not drop their swords when killed. Because mobs require fewer hits to kill with higher level swords, you will use these swords less, which causes diamond swords to last an extremely long time.
Stone (or better) swords revert minecarts in one hit with no decrease in durability, whereas wooden swords require two hits. You can make a wooden sword (in same pattern but with planks), golden sword (same pattern but with gold ingots), stone sword (same pattern but with cobblestone), iron sword (same pattern but with iron ingots), and diamond sword (same pattern but with diamonds ( gem). )
Gold (Ore)
Gold ore is commonly found by stone blocks deep underground, in a vein of 2-8 blocks (sometimes up to 16 if two veins so happen to spawn together, and down to 1 if the block that was supposed to be gold ore is occupied by a cavern or a dungeon). It shows up at elevations ranging from 0 (the bottom of the map) to 35 (about halfway between sea level and the bottom of the map). Up to 32 it is found in 0.1% of rock, above 32 its abundance falls sharply. It can be mined using an iron or diamond pickaxe. Gold ore can be smelted in a furnace to create gold ingots. Tools made with gold will mine much faster than diamond, however because of its very low durability it is more used for showing off than its value on items/armor. It can also be used to create a watch and a powered rail.
Gold (Block)
Gold blocks (also known as Block of Gold) are blocks for storing gold ingots that do not appear in normally generated maps anywhere.
Gold blocks are available for use in Creative mode and are often used to make shiny buildings or to show "wealth".
Gold is susceptible to destruction from TNT, and only requires approximately 3 seconds to mine successfully.
Gold blocks can be crafted by placing 9 gold ingots in a crafting grid. The gold blocks could then be crafted back into 9 ingots again, making them more useful as "storage units" rather than building units. Golden blocks can be used to make Golden Apples.
Gold (Ingot)
Gold is primarily used to craft clocks, powered rails and for decorative blocks or equipment (tools and armor).
Gold equipment is typically impractical as it has extremely low durability, and can only mine stone, cobblestone, coal and slabs. However, gold tools are the fastest at digging of all tools, and as such may be useful if one is in a hurry and has plenty of gold.
Obtained: smelting of gold ore or craft from gold block.
Creates: sword, armor, tool, gold block, clock, golden apple, powered rail.
Diamond (Ore)
Diamond ore is generally considered to be the most valuable and elusive block in the game. It can be found in a vein of 1-8 blocks (with larger concentrations obviously being more rare). Diamond shows up at elevations ranging from 1 to 19 blocks above the bottom of the map (for comparison, sea level is around 64 blocks above the bottom of the map). Below elevation 18, it occurs in roughly 0.08% of rock. This means that you must check 867 blocks below elevation 18 to have a 50% chance of finding at least one diamond ore. This roughly calculates a little bit above 5 diamonds per chunk. It can be mined for a diamond gem using an iron or diamond pickaxe. The diamond gems can be used right away in a Crafting Table to craft diamond tools, weapons and armor, which are currently the most durable in the game. These, along with coal, flint, Lapis Lazuli, and redstone ore, do not require any smelting and can be used immediately. Diamond blocks can be crafted by placing nine diamond gems together in a 3x3 square using the workbench.
Diamond ore cannot be found or placed in Classic as of version 0.30 and it drops 1 Diamond (Gem) in Indev, Infdev, Alpha and Beta.
Diamond (Block)
Blocks of Diamond are currently available in Indev, Infdev, Alpha, and Beta and can be obtained by crafting nine diamond gems together in a 3x3 square. They currently serve no crafting purpose, and function only as decoration and as a means of storing diamonds in a compact fashion. Diamond blocks can only be mined successfully with an iron or diamond pick. They have the same texture on all six sides.
Diamond (Gem)
A Diamond Gem is an item dropped when diamond ore is mined. This (along with items in general) is not available in Classic mode. Diamonds are considered one of the most valuable items in the game due to their rarity and usefulness as a crafting material. Tools and armor made from it are the most durable in the game. Diamonds can be used to make Shovels, Pickaxes, Axes, Hoes, Swords, Armor, Jukeboxes, and solid diamond blocks.
Diamond Ore can be mostly found at levels below 18, and is found in small veins of 1-8 together. It cannot be mined using stone, wooden or golden pickaxes. It can only be mined using an iron or diamond pickaxe.
Squid
When moving about, the squid's tentacles open and close, giving them an appearance of pushing themselves forward. Squid swim around aimlessly, and do not deliberately interact with the player.
When forced onto land, squid become immobile. They take fall damage and burn like any land mob. However, they cannot drown.
Unlike any other mobs, squid are capable of freely swimming up a waterfall.
Squid don't disappear when you go far from it, log out, or restart the server. This makes a squid a good pet which you can keep in your aquarium.
Drops: 0-3 Ink Sacks
Chicken
Chickens wander around aimlessly. They will make no attempt to stay out of water, and a common sight is several chickens bouncing up and down in the water. If you stand near a chicken, it will turn its head towards you for a few seconds, then resume its wandering. They appear to be drawn to caves, since they move more easily down ledges than up them. Since the Beta update they seem to be the most common mob.
Drops: 0-2 feathers and eggs (wait 5-10 minutes for a chicken to lay an egg)
Wolves (Tamed, Wild, Hostile)
Normally, you wouldn't keep a wolf as a pet. They are too dangerous. Obiously not a hostile one in this game. Besides, you can't! You can tame wild wolves in this game with bones. The amount of bones you give the wolf is random. Don;t hit the wolf or else it will attack you. It's eyes will be red to signal it is hostile. If you attack one wolf, it's pack will attack you as well. You right click a wolf to tame it with a bone. When hearts appeaer and it is weating a red collar around it's neck that signals it is tame. you can make it sit and standby right clicking. If you are being attacked your wolf will rush to save you even if it is sitting. However, wolves don't attack creepers. Wolves can die too. If it's tail is low, give it a porkchop (raw or cooked).
Drops: Nothing
Sheep
Have you ever felt wooly sheep? It feels very soft and puffy. In this game you can't feel it but you can take the wool. You can dye the sheep bye getting some dye and right clicking on the sheep. Some natural colored sheep come in white, black, light gray, gray or pink. You can use the wool for cartpets. I perfer white wool since it looks beautiful.
Drops: 1-3 wool
Cows
Cows. They are just like any other passive animal. They don't hurt you. Cows are another useful animal in the game because they drop leather. Do you know what leather makes? ARMOR!!! You might need some armor if you are going on an aventure. You might not know what you might run into like creepers, zombies etc. If a cow is right clicked with a bucket, you can get milk.
Drops: 0-2 Leather
Pigs
Mmmm...pigs. The juicy smell of fresh bacon. :D . Pigs don't attack you. They stay passive even though you kill them. Pigs are very useful in the game. For example, pretend I have very low health and got 3 raw porkchops, I have 2 choices, either to eat the raw porkchop which heals about 2 and a half hearts or cook them which heals much more. That is how pigs are very useful.
Drops: 0-2 Raw Porkchops and 0-2 cooked porchops (when killed in fire)
Slime
Don't they look like little lime flavored jelly with a face? Well, these are actually enemies, they follow you where ever you go. Even to the surface. The sun dosn't burn them when the come out to the sun. Slimes live in some caverns. The big ones can be very deadly though. If yoou deffet a big one, it splits into medium ones then small one.
Drops: 0-2 Slime Balls
Spider Jockey
Spider jockeys are a very deadly combination. The skeleton, a deadly mob that can shoot arrows at you and kill you. Spiders, they run faster than you and can pounce on you. They are very rare. Only a 1% chance they will spawn. If you ever faced a spider jocky that will be interesting to know.
Drops: 0-2 sring, 0-2 arrows and 0-3 bones.
Ghast
Ghasts can only be found in the nether. They arer extremely powerful and they are HUGE. They shoot fireballs at you when you are in a range of 100 blocks. You may reflect the fireballs or use a bow and arrow but carry a lot of arrows. There are so many ghosts there. They swim in lava but they don't get damage. They drop nothing so there is no point of killing them.
Drops: 0-2 gunpowder
Spider
Spiders are the most fastest enemy in the game. They attack you at night but in sunlight they are neutral. Beware! If the spider chases you at night, and you run home the spider continues to chase you at sunlight and that gives you no choice but to kill it. They climb on the roof of your home and make hissing noises. They can see through walls so that is how they know you are in there. They don't attack the house they just wait for you to come out. Spiders drop string. Their eyes glow red so it makes it creepy.
Drops: 0-2 string
Skeleton
This is the most annoying enemy of all. They have bows and arrows that you have to dodge to kill it. Try using it's technique against it but be careful not to get shot. The first time I tried to defeat it, I got killed so many times but luckily, the sun burned it just like the zombie. You just have to be patient and wait in your home until ALL the skeletons die. The sound of crackling bones signals a skeleton nearby. Skeletons drop arrows and bones.
Drops: 0-2 arrows and 0-2 bones
Zombies
Now, you may not believe me but zombies are the second most fastest character in the game. They run as fast as you and they obviously spawn in the dark. They make some sort of snarling noises when they get hurt. They burn in sunlight but they can still hurt you even though they are on fire. You can probably hear one outside your house being burnt but beware that they can put themselves out when they are in water. Zombies drop feathers. I know right? Feathery zombies.
Drops: 0-2 feathers
Creepers
Now, I know most of you hate creepers... they blow up your home, destroy your stuff, and mostly kill you :( . If you have a bow and arrow you are lucky. You may shoot the creeper at a certain distance and keep shooting until it dies. Try standing at least 5 blocks away from it then shoot. Another technique is to use a sword, hit it, and stand back away from it. If it blows up and you didn't get any damage, GOOD!!! Creepers drop sulpher or in other words, gunpowder.
Drops: 0-2 gunpowder
